A good CV/Resume is 5 things
- Succinct - a covering letter need not be more than one page and a CV a maximum of two. Be comprehensive but keep it to the point. (Don’t use small print to fit on to two sides)
- Relevant - only include significant information the reviewer will care about. If you are not sure, ask a friend. Make sure you do include all relevant information (e.g. qualification grades, job responsibilities and achievements, up to date contact details, level of any foreign language spoken)
-
Clear - there are a number of sections a CV should have, label them and set them out clearly so we can spot your achievements easily. If it’s hard to see them, we might miss them. We recommend the following sections:
- Personal details (brief and relevant)
- Education (include relevant qualifications)
- Employment
- Other interests
- References
- Understandable - avoid jargon, set things out in chronological order, explain time gaps so it is easy for the reviewer to understand
- Current - ensure everything is up to date and appropriate for the job you are applying for
